October 24, 2014 General Meeting

Our RR Pickleball Club had a combination general meeting and social event on October 24, 2014.  We all wait with baited breath on Ms Email to memorialize the meeting activities and distribute them.  If we are lucky she will send them via snail mail giving our email systems a break.  Well, we can hope.

As usual, the Stegers (brains Paula and brawn Jerry) in combination with the other social committee members (M.J., Brenda, Sandy, and Mickie) put on a fun event.  (The jury is still out on whether the board’s portion was quite as enjoyable, okay just kidding about that).

The club would also like to acknowledge those club members providing items such as the pop ups, tables, etc., as well as all the members who assisted in the set up (including tables and chairs) at the start of the event or the tear down (including tables and chairs) (You know who you are and I would probably miss some people if I started naming names).  We would also be remiss if we did not acknowledge our appreciation to those members participating in the cook off (obviously we appreciated some better than others, can you say Don and Bonnie Pixley and John and Jean DeChristopher, but I’ll be damned if I know what they won).  We would also like to thank Richard Shine for providing the sound system.  Finally, thanks to all the club members participating in the meeting and after party.  If you did not attend, you missed an enjoyable event.

One does have to wonder how a member of the social committee won the 50/50 drawing.  I know Brenda Amans would like to thank everyone who contributed to the funds our club will be using for our community projects as would all the Board and Social Committee members.  However, I’m thinking there may be a conspiracy here, does any one have Sheriff Babeu’s number to investigate.  Oh, wait a minute; just a week ago she also won gold.  Now I am really starting to wonder. Maybe she would like to buy me a lottery ticket!

Thanks again to everyone who contributed and/or participated in the event.  The bar has been set pretty high now.  I know we are all looking forward to the November event.  Well some of us more than others anyway.

I will try to remember to bring a camera to the next meeting.  As we all know you get what you pay for and considering what I am getting paid to do this job, I am sure none of you were expecting any pictures.  If, however, any of you happened to have any event pictures, especially compromising ones, and would be willing to share them, I will post them on the blog.  Just send them to cbonesteel@q.com.  Okay, Mickie is the official the blogger, just check the minutes, so send them to her at mstorckman@q.com and she can forward them to me.  I just do what I am told.

Get/stay involved, get your pickleball fix and we will see you on the courts.

10-21-14
Sr. VP of Operations for Robson Communities confirmed Robson Ranch AZ will co-host the 2015 National USAPA pickleball tournament with Palm Creek (announced earlier).  This will be a huge effort and we will need a number of persons to volunteer your time to support this major function.  Further, we will have a number of opportunities to see some outstanding pickleball.  Further, this year at the national there are some training classes being offered at reasonable rates for beginners as well as skilled players that is open to participants and non-participants alike.  Hopefully they will do something similar in 2015.

There will be a Q&A with club members sometime in December regarding our role in assisting with this tournament.  At the same time he may address other future concerns, facilities expansion, etc.  Club members will be notified when the Q&A is scheduled.  I assume an effort will be made to get these changes implemented prior to the tournament.

Stay tuned, once the national tournament is over this year, in early November, shortly thereafter work will probably commence on preparing for the 2015 tournament.  Just in case you are interested, the national this year will be in Buckeye with our own Al Hager competing in various categories.

Brenda and Sue Gold Medal winners  at Trilogy, Dianne Dunsford and Nina Constable won Gold and Silver way up north.  (See  Tournament News for Photos)

LESSONS WILL RESUME IN NOVEMBER

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Skill rating categories for social and rated play will be followed much more closely than in the past, driven by among other things, feedback the board received from the recent survey completed by club members. During social (mixed) play you should continue to play at your rated level, but may periodically move up a single level (.5, i.e. a 2.5 can play at a 3.0 level) to evaluate your improvement.  At rated play times, you should play at the level as indicated by the following.  A new listing of members along with individual skill ratings may be found under the Ratings and Ratings Committee tab on the right.  Please see the play schedule below for scheduled rated and social play times.

Skill level court assignments for play are as follows:
2.0 players on courts 1, 2, 15, and 16;
2.5 players on courts 3, 4, 13, and 14;
3.0 players on courts 5, 6, 11, and 12;
3.5+ players on courts 7,8,9, and 19.

Should you have any questions pertaining to this new policy, please do not hesitate contacting a board member to resolve questions or issues.
